New York State Mentoring Program
Developed by the Office of the Governor of New York State, this program has helped thousand of students become more successful in school, and in their lives.
Mentors undergo specialized training to provide them skills when working with their assigned mentee.
Each Mentor/Mentee pair meet for 1 hour per week, same place/same time to develop trust and responsibility on both sides of the relationship.
Mentor Coordinators are the people that make this opportunity possible for both the students, and for the mentors!
Benefits of having a Mentor include:
- Mentees are 46% less likely to start using illegal drugs than their peers;
- Mentees are 52% less likely than their peers to skip a day of school, and 37% less likely to skip a class;
